This event is free and open to the public.

This afternoon of discussion, performance, film, and music will showcase the interdisciplinary work of writer Jessica Hagedorn and culminates in an intimate evening of Q&A, book reading/signing by Hagedorn herself. Join us and an all-star cast of artists and scholars in this unique and celebratory event, curated by Professor Christine Bacareza Balance (UC Irvine).

Books will be available for sale and signing.

Jessica Hagedorn was born and raised in the Philippines and came to the United States in her early teens. Her novels include Toxicology, Dream Jungle, The Gangster of Love, and Dogeaters, which was nominated for a National Book Award. She is also the author of Danger and Beauty, a collection of poetry and prose, and the editor of Charlie Chan Is Dead: an Anthology of Contemporary Asian American Fiction and Charlie Chan Is Dead 2: At Home in the World. Her plays include Most Wanted, The Heaven Trilogy, and the stage adaptation of Dogeaters. She is the University Professor of Creative Writing in the MFA Program at LIU Brooklyn.

We’ll be meeting every Thursday for a series of lectures, workshops, and other events focusing on the potential for societal change, and what we can do to bring it about through creative tactics and strategies.
